Are you interested in drug therapy, safe administration of prescribed medications, knowledge of drug action related to body systems, & side effects of medications? Take our Trained Medication Aide (TMA) class and receive the skill boost to expand you professional arsenal!
This 48 hour course includes an overview of metric, apothecary, and household measurement abbreviations, with implications for use with medication administration to prepare you for a profession as a TMA in nursing homes, schools, correctional facilities, or other non-hospital, assisted living facilities for the physically or mentally disabled. Curriculum used has been approved by the Minnesota Board of Nursing and is compliant with their standards.
48 total hour of training; this course will be primarily taught online & via Zoom. (10 hours in-person, 16 hours via Zoom, & 22 hours online).

Face to Face Class Final Skills Test-out (12-5pm) -
Additional assignments & online work will be required & outlined during the first day of class. If you have a laptop, please bring to in-person classes.
In-person classes will be held in SCTCC's Health Science Building
1. For successful completion of this course, It is required that the student (not college instructor) set up an 8-hour shadowing experience at a health care facility. Students must observe for 8 hours, having two separate sessions, on two different shifts for 4 hours each. Students should be observed by TMA's or LPN's administering meds.
2. Individuals who wish to work as a TMA in a skilled nursing home or licensed boarding care facility must have completed a Minnesota Department of Health Approved Nursing Assistant program.
