Description:
The four-hour, classroom-only moped course is a great introduction to riding. The course is required for those who do not have a driver's license, are at least 15 years of age, and wish to ride a moped on the street. 

Legal Information
A moped is a vehicle that is propelled by a motor of a capacity of 50cc or less, and a maximum of two brake horsepower, which is capable of a maximum speed of not more than 30 mph on a flat surface. 

Anyone who holds either a drivers license or a motorized bicycle permit is eligible to operate a moped.  

Anyone 15 years old wishing to obtain a motorized bicycle/moped instruction permit must:
  • Complete a motorized bicycle/moped course
  • Present completion card and two forms of identification to the examiner to take the written knowledge test at a testing station.
  • Pass a vision test Pass the knowledge test, have a parent or guardian complete an affidavit, and pay the permit fee at the license bureau.
  • You must pass a skills test at a testing center to obtain a moped operator’s permit. For more information, visit the Minnesota Department of Public Safety's website.
