Motorcycle Safety Basic Rider - Brooklyn Park - # MSBRCHBIA5004 – 181BP17
Description:
Learn how to ride, and earn your motorcycle license endorsement in this 14.5-hour course featuring 10 hours of on cycle training and 4.5 hours of classroom training. Supportive and friendly instructors will teach you how to operate a motorcycle and the basic skills you need to safely ride on the street. Training motorcycles are provided for riders of all sizes. If you’re an automatic scooter rider you can bring your own scooter with proof of insurance if it’s 500cc or less, 400 pounds or less, in good working order and registered as a motorcycle.




To take this course, you must be able to ride and balance a bicycle. Balancing is not taught in this course. You must be able to safely control the motorcycle during every exercise. The instructor may dismiss you from the course, if at any time, they feel you are a danger to your own safety or the safety of the other students. Courses will run regardless of weather conditions: therefore, be prepared for rain, snow, wind cold and heat. Bring rain gear and dress in layers for warmth. It is important to bring snacks since vending machines/food is not available at the site.



Riders 18 and older can earn their motorcycle license by successfully completing the course. You must bring the required protective gear for on the range skills including: Eye protection, Long-sleeved shirt/jacket, Full-fingered gloves, Long pants with no tears or holes, Sturdy footwear that covers the ankles, and a D.O.T. approved helmet.

Parent/guardian signature is required for participants under 18 years of age *NOTE - If you are 18 or older you must have your motorcycle permit before attending class. **NOTE - Riders who have already failed a state and/or MMSC skill test twice are not eligible for the State Skill Test Waiver. All subsequent skill tests for a motorcycle endorsement must be taken at a DVS exam station. 1.45 CEU

The Classroom session will be held in the Law Enforcement Center Building - LEC 106.

Riders 18 and older:  if you have your motorcycle permit before class begins, you can earn your motorcycle license by successfully completing the course.  If you do not have your permit, you can still take this course, but you will still need to go to a Driver and Vehicle Services (DVS) exam station to take the skills test.

Riders under 18: MUST successfully complete this course BEFORE getting your motorcycle permit.  Parent/guardian signature is required for participants under 18 years of age.  A permission slip will be sent home the first night of class.

All riders:  You must have your driver's license or driver's permit to take the Basic Rider Course.  You must bring the required protective gear for on-cycle range skills.  Gear required:  eye protection, long-sleeved shirt/jacket, full-fingered gloves, long pants with no tears or holes, sturdy footwear that covers the ankles, and a D.O.T. approved helmet.
