Description:
With the increased focus on Person-Centered care, Motivational Interviewing (MI) is an important tool to have in your toolbox.  This evidence-based communication technique is a collaborative, respectful, and guiding process to help individuals strengthen their own motivation to change.  During this session, participants will learn the underlying mindset, core skills, and methods of MI through a series of lectures, exercises, discussions, and activities.  By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

• Summarize the basic approach, spirit, and principles of MI
• Demonstrate foundational skills of open questions, affirmation, reflective listening, and summary reflections (OARS) and their application within the spirit of MI
• Distinguish change talk
