MN Commercial Vehicle Certification

Safety inspections are required for commercial vehicles and farm vehicles hauling placarded amounts of hazardous materials over 26,000 lbs GVW (gross vehicle weight). Training provided in this class by the Minnesota State Patrol will prepare individuals to become certified as inspectors for trucks (including farm trucks), buses, and other vehicles required to have annual safety inspections.

Please have the following information available before you register for this class:
  1. Inspector's home address and personal phone number (required by the MN State Patrol as a second point of contact); enter this information on the Student Profile
  2. Employer's address and phone number (enter "self employed" if inspecting your own vehicles)
  3. County in which you will perform inspections (enter "out of state" if outside of Minnesota)
*Certification fee covers cost of the course ($200) and the cost of the Brake Chamber Tool ($45), which students will keep.
 The Brake Chamber Tool helps identify an air brake chamber’s model number, from type 9 to type 36.

Certification classes ( first time people or expired 6 months after grace period  or suspensions )  have resumed at the MN State Patrol Commercial Vehicle Headquarters. You do not need to bring anything with you to class.
