This course is designed for registered nurses (RN) who need a review and update of nursing skills to return to active status. Coursework will be a blend of onsite activities and e-learning. Clinical hours may include high fidelity simulations and/or at a sub-acute healthcare facility. Basic knowledge of computers is required. There will be ten class lectures plus 80 hours of clinical. Immunization, background study, CPR certification, and other important requirements can be found on our website. If you are considering this course, please consult with the MN Board of Nursing for any required paperwork as soon as possible. Additional costs NOT included in course fee include: Lab kits, textbook, and other learning resources. You will receive more information about these required resources on your first day of class.
MN Board of Nursing Requirements:
The MN Board of Nursing may require a refresher course if an individual has been out of nursing practice as few as 5 years, depending on circumstances. Please visit the MN Board of Nursing website for more information regarding these requirements. http://www.mn.gov/health-licensing-boards/nursing. Reregistration forms can be found at: https://mn.gov/boards/assets/Rereg_Pckt_1-21_tcm21-63292.pdf. Any form that requires signatures from Normandale should be completed and sent to: sunny.ainley@normandale.edu (email is preferred) as soon as possible so that this form can be submitted back to the MN Board of Nursing for approval. If you are currently licensed in MN, please email a copy of your license to: sunny.ainley@normandale.edu.
 
Basic knowledge of computers is REQUIRED:
You should be proficient and familiar with the terms below. If you do not have the knowledge or skills listed below, you will need to update your computer skills prior to registering for this course. Terms: Address bar, Browser, CD-ROM, Cursor, Download, Icon, Link, Menu, Scroll bar, Upload, URL. Skills: Web navigation, Use of e-mail (including how to send/receive attachments), Microsoft Word, Mouse usage (right/left click, double-click).
 
Didactic/Theory Coursework:
There will be approximately 90 hours of didactic/theory/skills coursework. Classwork will be a blend of asynchronous online learning within a learning management system (LMS) and in-person skills development activity. In-person schedule information will be provided in class.
 
Clinicals:
There will be 80 hours of clinicals/preceptorships. Some clinical experience may be administered through virtual simulation. In-person clinicals will be in a sub-acute setting and are typically scheduled during the week, M-F, daytime hours (some evening hours may be available) and are IN ADDITION to the classroom hours. You will schedule your clinical dates/times with the instructor upon the start of the program. Primary in-person clinicals will occur the last four weeks of the course. Additional scheduling information will be provided in class.
 
Immunizations:
Upon registration, you will be required to provide proof of immunization and/or supporting documentation for multiple considerations. PLEASE BEGIN this process as soon as you are registered. Many processes take up to a month to complete, especially immunization “series,” etc. You will receive an email with all the necessary requirements. You will NOT be able to start the program without these already in place. We will verify these requirements have been met at the onset of class.
 
Background Check:
You must also complete and pass a background check to participate in this course. More information will be provided in class.
 
CPR:
A current CPR certificate/license is required to participate in this course. Please complete this as soon as possible. You will NOT be allowed to participate in any clinicals without a current license.
 
Textbook:
Your textbook information will be provided shortly upon registration. You will order and pay for textbook the first week of class. Textbook fee is NOT included in your registration fee. The estimated cost of the textbook (including eLearning resources, simulations, etc.) is $245.00. The textbook is an eBook.
 
Supplies:
A supply kit will organized for you. The fee for this kit is NOT included in your registration fee. The estimated cost of the kit is $150.00. Your instructor will connect with you once the course starts to facilitate this ordering process.
 
Uniforms/Dress Code:
The uniform for clinical/preceptor experience is a royal blue scrub or polo top, white scrub pants, and white shoes.  You are responsible for your uniform and compliance to dress code.
