This course will review the information required for unlicensed personnel to administer medications while under the direction and supervision of a licensed registered nurse. You will learn legal and ethical issues related to medication administration, body systems and medications for each, administration of non-parenteral medication, and other required skills.. Attendance of all classes is mandatory; any absence will result in course failure. Students must attain 90% on all examinations to continue in the class. Students who do not attain 90% in the retake exam may continue to attend the lecture portion of the class but may not test and will receive a failing grade
A Trained Medication Aide (TMA) Certificate is earned upon completion of the course and meeting all course guidelines.
This course provides the state approved Medication Administration for Unlicensed Personnel program.

Please note: per State of Minnesota Administrative Rule 4658.1360 subpart 2, Individuals who wish to work as a TMA in a skilled nursing home or licensed boarding care facility should be eligible to be on the Nursing Assistant Registry and have completed a Minnesota Department of Health Approved Nursing Assistant program. Documentation of completion of approved course is required on the first day of class.
Course dates: September 9 - December 9, 2022. The last three Friday's of this course are for medication administration practice. No class on 10/21 or 11/25 due to MEA and Thanksgiving. This class is taking place on the Eden Prairie Campus in G255. On day one, you must bring proof that you have completed a 75 hour Nursing Assistant course. Either bring a copy of your certificate or your transcript showing you passed the course. Your MDH NA Registry card is not sufficient, as it does not prove you took the course, only proves you are on the registry.
