QCDs were originally enacted as a temporary provision in 2006 and made permanent in 2015. If you are 70 ½ or older, you can make gifts directly from your IRA to a qualified charity without including the distribution in your adjusted gross income on your federal or Minnesota income tax returns. If you are age 72 or older the QCD will count toward your IRA’s annual required minimum distribution (RMD). This presentation includes an understanding of the rules, potential pitfalls, and ideas for lowering social security income subject to taxes as well as reducing Medicare premiums for those subject to Income-related monthly adjustments.
