Course Requirements:
  1. High speed internet access.
  2. Computer or video conferencing system with webcam and microphone (built-in or external).
  3. Please read the MSHA Online Guidelines before registering to ensure that the online class is the right fit for your company.
Description:
This two-day course is in compliance with MSHA 30 CFR Part 46 and Part 48(b) and developed for persons new to the mining industry. This course will cover 16 of the required 24 hours of training; the remaining 8 hours of training must be conducted and documented by your employer, which can be done onsite through On-The-Job-Training.

MSHA training is required for all employees and independent contractors working in or around mining operations that are or may:
  • Engage in mining operations, including operating mining equipment, developing, drilling, blasting, extracting, milling, crushing, screening or sizing materials, or hauling materials within the mine for any length of time.
  • A maintenance or service worker, working on mining equipment for frequent or extended periods; or
  • A construction worker who is exposed to hazards of mining operations for frequent extended periods.

Reminders
 
  1. Please make sure Northland Community & Technical College is listed as a competent person in your Training Plan.
  2. Northland shall provide up to 16 hours of the required 24 hours of New Miner Training.
  3. In your Training Plan, delivery methods shall be amended to list “web-based”. * If you are training under a Part 48 plan, your amendments will have to be approved by the MSHA district office you currently report to. For the North Central District, the District Manager is Chris Hensler, he can be contacted at hensler.christopher@dol.gov
  4. Please read the MSHA guidelines before registering to ensure that the online class is the right fit for your company.
