Nursing Assistant Knowledge and Skills Test

Description:
The nursing assistant competency exam is offered to qualified candidates seeking placement on the Minnesota Department of Health Registry which is required for employment in most nursing homes. State and federal laws require that most candidates for testing have completed a Minnesota state-approved nursing assistant or home health aide training program of 75 hours or more. The competency exam includes a knowledge portion and hands-on demonstration of nursing assistant skills and abilities. The exam is scheduled by registration only.

Your exam will consist of the following:
Knowledge Exam: You will have a maximum of 120 minutes to complete the 70 question Knowledge Test. (written exam)
Skills Exam: The purpose of the Skill Test is to evaluate your performance demonstrating Minnesota Department of Health-approved nurse aide skill tasks. Each of your randomly selected three (3) or four (4) tasks will have scenarios associated with them. You will be allowed a maximum of thirty (30) minutes to complete your three or four tasks.


The total cost for the exam is $250, due at the time of the registration, payable to Century College.
Fees for retesting:
Skills only: $250 payable to Century College
Knowledge only: $120 payable to Century College

 
Registration Process:
1. Choose a date and location for your exam. Pre-registration is required through Century College.  Enroll in person or call 651.779.3341 to register.
2. Full payment is required at the time of registration.

You must arrive 20 minutes before the exam start time to begin the check-in process.  Please plan to be at the test site up to five (5) hours, in the worst-case scenario.

PREPARING FOR THE EXAM:
• You must bring a UNITED STATES (US) GOVERNMENT ISSUED, SIGNED, UNEXPIRED, PHOTO BEARING ID (refer to the Candidate Handbook for a list of exceptions) Only original IDs are accepted. No photocopies, faxes or images are allowed.   

• Dress code: Full scrubs and closed-toe shoes (refer to the Candidate Handbook for a list of other testing attire requirements regarding fingernails, jewelry, tattoos, piercings, etc.) 

• Your initial registration information will be entered in D&SDT-Headmaster’s TestMaster Universe (TMU©).  You must sign in to TMU© using your secure Email or Username and Password and complete your demographic information. If you do not know your Email or Username and Password, enter your email address and click on “Forgot Your Password?” You will be asked to re-enter your email and a ‘reset password link’ will be sent to your email (see instructions under ‘Forgot your Password and Recover your Account’).  If you need further assistance, please call D&SDT Headmaster at 1.888.401.0462.

• IF YOU ARE LATE, DO NOT BRING REQUIRED MANDATORY ID, OR YOU ARE NOT IN MANDATORY TESTING ATTIRE YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO TEST AND YOU WILL BE CONSIDERED A "NO SHOW". No shows forfeit their testing fees and must repay to reapply for another test date.
