This class covers the essential elements in an 8 hour course covering the POST mandated drivers training required for all peace officers. This training is required once every five years. The lecture portion of the class will cover emergency vehicle operations, liability issues, statistics, physiological & psychological effects, use of force, and intervention options. The behind the wheel portion will cover evasive driving, controlled braking, serpentine, skid control, backing, parking, and pursuit driving techniques. This course combines classroom and hands-on training. There will be a segment of the class that will allow officers to utilize the driving simulator at the MERIT. NOTE: Officers must provide a vehicle to drive during this class.
