Music Education Workshop - Building Foundations of Literacy in the Ensemble Rehearsal
#: 3000010    ID: CECT 2229    Section: 16
Description:
While I operate from a broader definition of music literacy, I believe that students in band, orchestra, and choir should be able to do what professional artists in these genres must be able to do: read the dots on the page. Unfortunately, too many young students are taught decoding or only had 45-60 minutes a week of large-group music instruction and have not had the aural and iconic experiences to help them make meaning of the symbolic notation. We’ll explore sound before sight through audition, iconic reading, improvisation, and dictation at every level beginning at, well, the beginning! Join me to “spiral it up” by spreading the word of Dr. Carol Krueger with lots of engaging hands-on experiences along the way. It is my goal that you leave feeling passionate about empowering, rather than enabling, your future students!
