Brewers Schuster and the Doctors Mayo of Rochester, MN
#: CBEP    ID: 9154    Section: 051624
Description:
In the early 1900s Schuster Brewing Company was one of Rochester's more successful and prominent businesses.  With almost 50 employees, Schuster Brewing produced millions of bottles of beer and was shipping their product all over the country.   Meanwhile, down the street,  Mayo Clinic, with roughly the same number of employees, was making their own news and breakthroughs in medicine.  By 1922, one set of brothers would close their doors while the other would go on to lay the foundation of the current Mayo Clinic Campus.  This lecture will compare the two fathers and two sets of brothers, listing their similarities and their differences, their successes, and their local, regional, and national impacts. It is a tale of two families, both dedicated to Rochester, with one ultimately becoming more successful than the other.
