#: CBEP    ID: 9154    Section: 062624
Description:
Located in southeast Minnesota's Karst Region, near the town of Harmony, Niagara Cave was discovered in 1924 when three pigs disappeared from a landowner's pasture. Boasting an underground stream, waterfall, 450 million-year-old fossils, speleothems, and even a subterranean wedding chapel, Niagara Cave provides one-hour guided tours and has been rated among the top ten caves in the United States numerous times. The cave has welcomed hundreds of thousands of visitors, including families experiencing their first time underground, experienced spelunkers, and students of science seeking to learn more of our region's past, present, and future. This conversation will cover the history of Niagara Cave and delve into the geology of southeast Minnesota's Karst Region and the Driftless.
