Leadership Academy

Goal:  This high-impact program seeks to help managers become leaders in their organizations.  The program is packed with skill building and coaching opportunities.
Approach The ARCC Leadership Academy consists of six half days during the first half of 2024.  Each session will be preceded by a reading assignment. Participants will also have the opportunity to speak one-on-one with the facilitator, Dr. Richard Brynteson, educator and executive coach, twice.
Content of the program:
Session 1: Leadership.  Key question: What is it to be a leader in 2024?
Topics to be discussed:
  • Leadership styles
  • Coaching
  • Collaborative leadership
  • Vision
Session 2: Building emotional intelligence.  Key question: How do I become a better leader?
Topics to be discussed:
  • Tenets of EQ: self-awareness, self-control, motivation, empathy
  • Crucial conversations
  • Building your own EQ throughout your lifetime
Session 3: Change and Conflict.  Key question: How do we keep what makes us great and change with the times?
Topics to be discussed:
  • Kubla Ross model of change
  • Kotter’s model of change management
  • Conflict management
  • Staying centered in a changing world
Session 4: Innovation:  Key question: How does a team become innovative?
Topics to be discussed:
  • Five-step innovation process
  • Innovation skill development
  • The “DNA” of innovation

Session 5: Decision-Making.  Key question: How do I hone my decision-making skills?
Topics to be discussed:
  • Eight-step decision-making process
  • Eleven psychological traps in decision-making
  • Behavioral Economics and the psychology of decision-making
  • Using key concepts in behavioral economics
Session 6: Analytics and Artificial intelligence. Key question: What do I need to know to be a leader in the next decade?
Topics to be discussed:
  • Four kinds of analytics
  • How analytics are used and can be used
  • Artificial intelligence: friend or foe?
Instructor: Dr. Richard Brynteson
Dr. Richard Brynteson is a professor, executive coach, innovation consultant, author, and public speaker.  He teaches in the MBA program at Concordia University, St. Paul, where he has been a professor of 32 years.  He has published six books, on business subjects such as innovation and behavioral economics.  He has published blogs on his travels as well as thoughts on innovation and education. He has worked with companies on innovation projects in Africa, Asia and the United States.  He has only had to bribe his way out of jail once.
