Diverse Texts Conference July 23, 2024, 8:00am-3:30pm Bemidji State University Bangsberg Hall Learn how to embed Native American literature and perspectives into K-12 instruction using the new MDE ELA standards. Hear inspiring stories, explore diverse books, and engage in meaningful discussions focused on representative texts. The Diverse Texts Conference will feature keynote speakers Dr. Brenda Child and Byron Graves. Thanks to a grant, the conference is FREE and includes: Preconference gathering on Monday, July 22nd at 7:00pm, on the shores of Lake Bemidji Full conference on Tuesday, July 23rd, from 8:00am-3:30pm Conference meals to include breakfast, snack, and an authentic Anishinaabe meal Copies of Rez Ball and Bowwow Powwow to use in your classrooms and additional books (Brenda Child’s My Grandfather’s Knocking Sticks, Boarding School Seasons, and Holding our World Together) will be available for purchase during the authors book signing Certificate for 6 CEUs Lodging is available on campus and in the city of Bemidji. Location: Bemidji State University Campus Fee: $0 for first 100 people (includes breakfast, lunch, and snack) Lodging: Blocks of rooms available at Country Inn & Suites and DoubleTree. The campus housing option closed on July 9th and is no longer available. CEUs: Please indicate if you would like to receive 6 CEUs for attending the conference. Pre-Conference: Please indicate if you would like to attend the informal gathering, held along the shores of Lake Bemidji. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be moved indoors. There is no charge for the pre-conference gathering. Monday, July 22 at 7:00PM. July 7 – Last day to cancel housing with refund. A $20.00 cancellation fee will be deducted from the housing fee. Absolutely no refunds for the conference fees will be made after July 7.
