Prerequisite
Current Nursing License.
You must submit your LPN License number during the registration process.
Participants can register at any time between July 1, 2024 and May 16, 2025. This course is self-paced, with capacity limited to 6 active students at a time. Wait list participants will be enrolled in order of registration date.
Coursework, labs, and preceptor clinical must be completed prior to June 15, 2025 to receive the certificate of completion.
Course Information
This is a North Dakota Board of Nursing approved course, written to provide the LPN with the knowledge of IV fluid balance, IV medication administration, central venous catheter maintenance, IV legalities with the role of the practical nurse, and IV initiation.
The course is designed in a hybrid format that would equal 30 hours of study and participation time over four weeks to complete:
- 5 assignments with 3 exams
- A minimum of six hours spent in lab practice time
- A minimum of four hours supervised practice with an approved preceptor

- Content is self-paced. Students can register and complete the course as it fits their schedule, prior to June 15, 2025.

- Students will interact with the instructor through D2L and at the scheduled lab session(s).
- Training supplies include a textbook and supply kit. These items are available at the East Grand Forks campus.
- This is a continuing education Pass/Fail course. An overall score of 80% or above is required before attending the lab session(s).
- Textbook must be returned at the lab session.
- Scrubs and name tag are required for lab session(s).
- After successful lab completion, student will arrange an approved preceptor.
- Student must submit the completed evaluation from the preceptor, to the instructor, prior to June 15, 2025.
- Upon completion, students will receive a certificate of completion.
Course requirements
- Students will be contacted to provide LPN license number to complete registration process and payment.
- Students will be required to use a computer with internet access and Chrome or Moziilla Firefox browser to complete online D2L course.
- Student will pick up textbook and supply kits at our East Grand Forks campus. Textbook must be returned at the lab session.
- Students will be required to attend lab(s) on the East Grand Forks campus. Lab times will be posted in D2L by the instructor, student selects from the available sessions.
- Students will be required to identify a clinical site with an approved clinical preceptor to complete successful initiation of three IVs.
