In order to earn the certificate, you must complete four (4) core classes:
Leadership Skills
Are you interested in becoming a more effective leader? In this course you will:
- Identify leadership opportunities in everyday life
- Understand the differences in power vs. influence
- Understand the 5 different leadership styles and identify yours
- Learn the seven skills of effective leaders
- Understand the phases in negotiating
- Implement strategies to build resilience as a leader
Art of Effective Communication
Do you wonder why you get frustrated when communicating with others; you don’t feel heard or you feel misunderstood? In this course you will:
- Learn the communication feedback process model
- State the different types of communication
- Understand what makes communication ineffective
- Learn the different styles of communication and identify your style; how it impacts your communication with others
- Establish an individual plan for effective communication
Performance Management & Coaching
Learn how to better manage your team’s performance, day-to-day, monthly and annually by utilizing a process with easy steps to follow. You will learn ways to motivate, encourage, develop and better support your direct reports. In this course you will:
- Define performance management
- Understand the 5 stages of performance management
- Learn what it means to coach an individual on performance and how to coach on an individual contributor’s performance
- Demonstrate a feedback process model
- Learn how to utilize a performance improvement plan
- Learn what motivates employees
- Learn how to show appreciation and reward employees
Introduction to Human Resources Laws
The nature of work is reflected in the country’s shift from an agricultural, then industrial, to an information focused society. With this dramatic shift, the employer-employee relationship has evolved to become more complex. Leaders are not only responsible for managing people and processes, and maximizing productivity and profit, but for minimizing risk and maintaining compliance with government rules and regulations as well. This session will provide an overview of the top 20-25 laws (federal and state) pertaining to Human Resources--covering areas such as recruitment, wages, benefits, safety, medical leave, harassment, discrimination, discipline, and termination. It will include background information, current events, and interactive discussions on HR.
You must also complete two (2) elective courses. Choose from the following course options:
Cultural Responsiveness
Diversity awareness is key to being a team player and learning how to appreciate the differences that each team member brings with them in adding insight, creativity and their own experiences. In this course you will:
- Define diversity and know the different ways we are diverse
- Understand the main cultural groups represented in the United States and in our workforce
- Recognize and understand how attitudes towards differences influence interactions with others
- Implement ways to work cohesively with a diverse population
- Set and define goals and strategies for the workplace’s
- Commit to taking positive action to continue valuing differences
Conflict Management Resolution
Do you have conflict at work, home or in general; learn what creates conflict and how to overcome it using your conflict management style. In this course you will:
- State the five conflict management modes
- Understand how conflict impedes effective teamwork
- Identify your conflict management style
- Develop a plan of action
- Implement healthy methods to resolve disputes
Introduction to Project Management
Does your organization struggle with how to effectively manage projects? Do you or your department lose productivity and time; this course will better help you better understand the steps and strategies to better managing projects. In this course you will:
- Definition of what is project management (project vs process)
- Understand what is a project life cycle
- State the benefits of project management and why it is important
- Utilize the 5 Project Management Phases
