Description:
Le Griffon is the most hunted shipwreck on the Great Lakes. Lost on its maiden run in 1679, owner Robert LaSalle believed his crew mutinied on him, stealing valuable fur cargo and destroying the ship to cover their deed. Debris and Native American stories led most to believe a storm killed the crew and broke the ship apart in Lake Michigan. Historian, Ric Mixter shares in this lecture not only the tragic voyage of the ship, but the stranding of LaSalle, and dozens of Le Griffons have since been 'discovered' but none have proven to be the elusive ship.
