This course provides a challenging foundation for sonographers seeking education on the topic of advanced OB-GYN material from a Maternal Fetal Medicine perspective. The Advanced OB-GYN course will dive deep into the complexities of the menstrual cycle, uterine & ovarian pathology, fetal organ systems throughout each trimester of pregnancy, & chromosomal abnormalities seen in various maternal and fetal conditions. After completion of this course, sonographers will have the confidence & knowledge to evaluate normal and abnormal sonography images within the OB-GYN field.
Content:
This course is primarily online, and all course requirements must be completed within the 8-week time-frame.
The coursework provides a foundation for sonographers seeking education on the topic of advanced OB-GYN material. This course content includes learning advanced anatomy, physiology and pathology seen within the uterus, ovaries, and each trimester of pregnancy. Additional information will include methods for optimizing an ultrasound image for diagnostic purposes within an obstetric ultrasound exam. Additional information is placed on ultrasound procedures and treatment in high-risk cases.
General requirements to take this course:
- Must be registered with the ARDMS, have completed the Sonography Principles & Instrumentation (SPI) examination, or have diploma from an accrediting school that states completion of the sonography program.
- Active participation in all discussion is mandatory.
- Download of SonoSim applications to computer.
Time: 8-week course
Estimated 5hrs per week.
Dates: Sept 30th – Nov 22nd
- All course content must be completed on D2L & SonoSim modules by November 22nd, 2024.

Upon Completion:
Students will receive a certificate of completion after successfully completing the requirements and return of SonoSim equipment.

- Students will need access to a computer with internet connection to successfully complete this course.
- Capability to download SonoSim applications to computer.

Advanced sonography training is supported by a grant from The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust to St. Cloud Technical & Community College (SCTCC). Priority for registration will be given to sonographers working at rural and underserved hospitals, clinics, and health centers throughout Minnesota, who may be eligible to participate in this training free of charge. For those working at facilities not covered by this grant, you will be provided with information on fees for the course and skills/assessment before you make a commitment to participate.
Additional Notes:
A promo-code will be available for sonographers working at facilities that qualify for the Helmsley Grant funding. Sonographers that do not qualify for the Helmsley Grant funding will be put on a waiting list and will be eligible to enter the course 5 days before the start date if room is available.
