This course will introduce you to the instructional tools needed to succeed as a clinical office specialist and as an electronic records specialist. This class is designed to provide you with the skills necessary to learn, along with hands-on activities to reinforce the instruction. Upon completion, you will be qualified to take the CEHRS (Office and Certified Electronic Records Specialist) Exam through the National Healthcare Association. Please see instructor for more details.

The class is 8 weeks long, self-paced, and online. There will be one mandatory zoom session at the start of the class.

This Textbook uses SIMChart for the Medical Office (SCMO). Students who complete the activities in the textbook should be able to transfer their knowledge to other EHR software.

You will learn the following:
• Entry Level Electronic Health Record training
• Electronic Healthcare Records System
• Privacy Laws, Confidentiality and Security
• Administrative uses of the Electronic Health Record
• Entry level Clinical Reimbursement process
• The interrelationship between clinical departments and the role of the Clinical Office and Electronic Records Specialist


REQUIRED TEXTBOOKS: The Electronic Health Record for the Physician's Office, approx $70. Online book code, 1HCT 0046. Textbooks should be purchased before the first class and are available at the Century College Bookstore located on the West Campus, 651.779.3281 or online at www.centurycollegebookstore.com. *A Certificate of Completion will be awarded at the end with successful completion of class (75% or above).

LOCATION: Online via Zoom & D2L* Note that you can work the online hours at any time, except the mandatory Zoom session, disregard timeframe noted in schedule.

The last day to register for this class is March 17, 2025.

You must be age 18 or older and be proficient in the English Language and keyboarding.

You will need computer access, internet connection, and an email address.

This course is delivered entirely online.  There will be one mandatory Zoom session at the start of the class.  It will be setup by the instructor after you register.

SPECIAL NOTICE: This course will be held virtually and use a combination of delivery via Zoom and D2L.

ZOOM:  You will receive an email with the Zoom link to your class meeting.  To prepare for your class, setup and test your Zoom connection.  A troubleshooting guide can be found here.  Your instructor will not be able to troubleshoot technology issues during class.

D2L: The week prior to the start of class, you will receive login instructions via email on how to access the course on D2L Brightspace for coursework and chats.
