Description:
Dr. Edward Creagan is the author of the best-selling book on end-of-life issues, Farewell. This book reflects approximately 40,000 conversations with patients and families at the end of life. From this experience, Dr. Creagan can clarify for us the importance of complex legal, financial, and medical decisions, which are best discussed in the light of day rather than under the glare of an intensive care unit monitor in an emergency room. He will unpack the role of hospice and palliative medicine and what each of the specialties can bring to the patient and the family during a very challenging time. During these difficult times for patients and families, we may not get a second chance to make our wishes known. He will discuss the importance of advance directives. If we do not decide, someone will decide for us and that is not always a good decision.
