This course provides Licensed Dental Assistants with the knowledge and skills necessary to administer supraperiosteal and field block injections procedures without inducing detrimental physiological side effects, under direct dentist supervision. This is a 45-hour course. Which includes 25 hours of didactic instruction through pre-recorded video lectures and assignments, 15 hours of on-campus training where you'll successfully perform 50 supraperiosteal and field block injections, and 5 hours of hands-on injection experience in a clinical settings, under the direct supervision of a dentist.
Prerequisites:
- Minnesota Dental Assisting License
- Minimum of one year of current chairside experience as a Minnesota licensed dental assistant
- Current CPR certification
Before administering local anesthesia, a licensed dental assistant must:
- Have at least one year of experience practicing as a Minnesota licensed dental assistant in general chairside dental assisting.
- Complete a board-approved didactic and clinical course at a school accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation.
- Pass a board-approved, nationally recognized local anesthetic examination (CDCA local anesthesia examination).
- Submit the Minnesota Board of Dentistry’s application for local anesthesia certification.

Pregnant women may attend this course, but will not receive injections.
Expected Attendance Requirements: Participants are expected to be in 100% attendance during all lab dates/times.

Refunds will not be issued for anyone registered for a class and does not show or attend. (No Shows – A no call, no show is an absence from the class without notifying Workforce Development Solutions within the required time).
