Description:
The Certificate of Completion in Administration of Local Anesthesia for the Licensed Dental Assistant is designed specifically to prepare licensed dental assistants to deliver this service. The certificate program will consist of 45 hours of didactic, lab and clinical hours and will be offered through Hennepin Technical College Customized Training Division.
Instruction
45 Hour Course
• 25 hours of course content via hybrid learning using Desire to Learn (D2L) learning management system, Zoom/MS Teams, recorded lectures, assignments and quizzes
• 5 hours clinical experience in their dental office
• 15 hours of clinical experience completed at Hennepin Technical College on pre-determined days with competency-based outcomes
Note: Pregnant individuals may attend the course but will not receive injections. They may be required to bring in patients for this portion to complete the requirements.
Program Goals
Participants will spend 45 hours over the course of 12 weeks, in a hybrid learning environment meeting the following objectives:
• Reviewing Head and Neck Anatomy
• Selection and preparation of armamentarium
• Pharmacology and physiology of anesthetics including patient selection, indications and contraindications
• Potential complications and medical emergencies (local and systemic)
• Injection Techniques, types and dosages
• Infection control and disposal as well as needle stick prevention
Asynchronous online lecture, with two in-person sessions taking place Saturday, April 12th & Sunday, April 13th in classroom G279. Lunch to be to be provided on in-person dates.
