The WSU Retiree Center is offering another day trip opportunity to see a fantastic musical in the Twin Cities. On Wednesday, October 22nd, we will be heading to the Orpheum Theater in Minneapolis to see an evening performance of Purple Rain. This is very exciting, because this play is having its world premiere in Minneapolis before it moves to Broadway. We will be some of the very first people that are able to see this play!! We have secured great main-level seats for the show! Here’s a little information about the play from the play’s website:
The world premiere stage adaptation of Prince’s legendary film and album, Purple Rain™ is based on the original screenplay by Albert Magnoli and William Blinn, and features a book by Tony Award winner and two-time Pulitzer Prize finalist Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, music and lyrics by Prince and direction by Tony Award-nominee Lileana Blain-Cruz. Longtime Prince collaborators Bobby Z and Morris Hayes join the award-winning creative team as Prince Music Advisors.
Purple Rain tells the fictional story of The Kid, an up-and-coming rock musician in the Minneapolis music scene, as he contends with a tumultuous home environment, a rival band and a budding romance.
Before the play begins at 7:30 p.m., we will stop at the Apache Mall in Rochester to eat and/or shop and to pick up any people from Rochester that would like to attend the play. There are several food options at the Apache Mall including Applebee’s, Huhot Mongolian Grill and several fast food options in the Food Court.
