The WSU Retiree Center is offering another opportunity to see a fantastic Broadway musical in the Twin Cities. On Thursday, August 14th, we will be heading to the Orpheum Theater in Minneapolis to see a matinee performance of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast: the Musical. We have secured great main-level seats for the show. Here’s a little information about the play from the play’s website:
Be our guest at Disney’s newly reimagined 30th Anniversary production of Beauty and the Beast, the breathtaking musical filled with the romance and grandeur audiences know and love. This enchanting and timeless tale has been brought to life like never before, with spectacular new sets and dazzling costumes. The show boasts the Oscar-winning and Tony Award-nominated score, including the classic songs “Be Our Guest” and “Beauty and the Beast.”
Reuniting to create this new production are members of the original Tony Award-winning artistic team, including composer Alan Menken, lyricist Tim Rice, book writer Linda Woolverton, with direction and choreography by Olivier Award nominee Matt West, scenic design by Stanley A. Meyer, costume design by Ann Hould-Ward and lighting design by Natasha Katz.
Beauty and the Beast is the beloved musical that will fill your heart with joy and Disney magic.
We will not be stopping for lunch or dinner on this trip. We will have snacks on the bus, and we will stop at Kwik Trip on the way home so that people can get more snacks if necessary.
I know that many of you have children and grandchildren that might also be interested in attending…please bring them!
Please know that the play is intended for ages 6 and it is not recommended for anyone under the age of 4.
Here is our itinerary:
- 10:00 am – Board bus at Elks Parking Lot (4540 Service Drive, Winona)
- 12:15-12:30 pm – Arrive at the Orpheum Theater
- 1:00 pm – Showtime
- 3:45 pm – Board the bus for Winona
- 6:00 pm – Arrive at the Elks Parking Lot
The cost of the trip is $100/person and includes your ticket to the play, and the bus ride (including snacks and water). This does not include a tip for the bus driver, so please bring a few extra dollars if you’d like to give the driver a tip.
We have reserved 50 tickets for the play, so please register soon if you’re interested! Remember, you do not need to be a WSU retiree to go on this trip. The trip is open to everyone!

If a day trip must be canceled due to insufficient enrollment, inclement weather, or emergency circumstances, you will be notified as soon as possible and receive a full refund. You may cancel your registration and receive a full refund if we receive your withdrawal and refund request in writing, via email, mail or in person, at least five full business days before the date of the trip.
