Course description:
Advanced Training for Sonography
This curriculum is designed to support a sonographers’ vascular knowledge and help prepare for the ARDMS VT examination. The Vascular Essentials course is designed for sonographers that have a goal to learn more about the complexity of vascular basics & vascular pathology. This course dives deep into normal anatomy and breaks down the definition of what happens when our vascular system experiences Dis- ease! Discover more about the basic pathologic conditions of the arterial & venous systems while learning about the normal and abnormal waveform characteristics within those vessels. After completion of this course, you will be able to describe how grayscale, color Doppler and spectral Doppler are imaged to help evaluate the vascular system in normal exams and when pathology is present.
This course is appropriate for those that have a vascular background and would like to prepare for the vascular credentialing board exam.
Content:
This course is primarily online, with in-person skills practice and assessment. Online portion of the course must be completed within the 8-week time frame. Skills and assessment will be scheduled on an individual basis with the instructor, to take place at your facility, at SCTCC, or at another agreed-upon location.
The coursework provides a vascular foundation for those sonographers that are seeking education for their ARDMS vascular technology examination. Course content including normal vascular structures, common vascular pathology and how the normal fluid dynamics change when disease is entered into the vascular system.
General requirements to take this course:
- Must be registered with the ARDMS, have passed the Sonography Principles & Instrumentation (SPI) examination, or have a diploma from an accrediting school that states completion of the sonography program.
- Active participation in all discussion is mandatory.
Time: 8-week course
**Estimated 5hrs per week**
Dates: May 5th – June 27th, 2025. Skills practice and assessment to be scheduled with the instructor based on participant location and instructor availability.
Upon Completion:
Students will receive a certificate of completion after successfully completing the requirements and returning simulation equipment. SDMS CME credit is pending for this course.
Supported by the Helmsley Charitable Trust:
Advanced sonography training is supported by a grant from The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust to St. Cloud Technical & Community College (SCTCC). Priority for registration will be given to sonographers working at rural and underserved hospitals, clinics, and health centers throughout Minnesota, who may be eligible to participate in this training free of charge. For those working at facilities not covered by this grant, you will be provided with information on fees for the course and skills/assessment before you make a commitment to participate.
