This course introduces programmable logic controllers (PLCs) with an emphasis on hardware and ladder logic programming. Participants will utilize PLC wiring diagrams, input and output devices, timers, counters, and other ladder logic elements to create PLC controlled applications.
Participants will:
- Describe the advantages of PLCs over relay logic and microcontroller systems.
- Establish communication from PC to PLC.
- Set up the correct hardware configuration within PLC programming software.
- Interface various input and output devices to a PLC considering voltage and current ratings.
- Create ladder logic PLC programs that include informative comments and annotations.
- Troubleshoot PLC programs with software debugging features.
- Create PLC ladder logic programs that utilize timers, counters, subroutines, jump and labels instructions to control industrial machinery.
- Develop ladder logic programs that include various math, move, shift, and comparison operations.
Suggested Participants: maintenance technicians, controls technicians
