Description:
The USS Midway CV-41 served for 47 years between 1945 and 1992. She sailed the oceans of the world- the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, and Arctic. The Midway was the engineering marvel of its time. At its commissioning in 1945, it was the largest ship in the world and was too big to pass through the Panama Canal. The USS Midway served during a period of time in our history that included the Korean War, Quemoy–Matsu Island conflict with China (first use of a nuclear threat by the U.S.), and the Vietnam War and in 1991 she served as the U.S. Flagship in Operation Desert Storm in the Middle East. This virtual tour will take a look at areas of the ship where fascinating accomplishments of the USS Midway, her brave officers, and the ship’s crew took place. There were dangerous times for the Midway, and our presentation will give you a glimpse of what it was like to serve on the USS Midway.
