This course covers both low and high pressure boilers used in steam and hot water heating and process installations. This course is designed for those who want to acquire a Special license or upgrade to a Second class B or C license.  [The test is not administered this day unless specified]
**There will be an opportunity to take the Boiler Exam 05/28/25 at the MN West Community & Technical College Worthington Campus**
 
Please follow these application instructions below prior to our Boiler Test Prep Training 
**You must APPLY to test before you can register for a test**
 


Applying to take your exam:
There are two ways to apply- online & via mail. The fastest way would be doing your application online.
  1. Applying online:
    1. Go to: Please Log In - iMS
      1. Do not log in—you will use the small link below the log-in area that says, “continue as guest”
    2. You will select the button, “ New License or Registration”
    3. Then, you will select the button, “Boiler”
    4. Finally, you will select the button that corresponds with the license you are hoping to obtain.
      1. This will bring you through the application process
        1. If you are a ‘Special Engineer’ you will SKIP the ‘upload files’ section. If you are taking an exam for a higher licensure, you will upload your affidavit in the ‘upload files’ section to be reviewed with your application.
      2. The final part of the application will be the $50 exam fee.
    5. After you complete your exam application, you will want to watch the email you connected to your exam application so you can watch for emails asking for more information or for your 6-digit confirmation code to use to schedule your exam.
  2. Applying via mail:
    1. https://www.dli.mn.gov/sites/default/files/pdf/BoilerPacket.pdf download and print this packet fill it out! (You can type into it but you cannot type in the signature lines!)
      1. Make sure you put a legible email address on the form as this is where communication about your application will be sent!
    2. Mail the completed forms and your $50 check made out to “Department of Labor and Industry.”
    3. After you complete your exam application, you will want to watch the email you connected to your exam application so you can watch for emails asking for more information or for your 6-digit confirmation code to use to schedule your exam.
Registering for your exam:
Once you receive your email approving you to take the exam, you will use the 6-digit confirmation code to register for your seat in the exam! This is the only way to see locations, dates and times that the exam is available. Follow the instructions below to register for your exam:
  1. Please Log In - iMS follow this link to get to the online software system
    1. You do not need to log-in. Use the ‘continue as guest’ button below the log-in are
    2. You’ll let the screen load and then look toward the top of the page for a white box next to the DLI logo that has ‘Goto Record #’ in it. Click into that box and type in your 6-digit confirmation code. Once it’s typed in, you’ll hit ‘enter’ or ‘return’ on your keyboard and it should pull up your exam approval screen.
    3. Then, you’ll be looking for a box that says “exams” a green circle button. Click the green circle to schedule your exam
      1. Once you’ve selected the LOCATION and DATE you’ll hit ‘SCHEDULE’ and check your email to make sure you got an email with further information about scheduling!
