Description:
This 6-week course provides Class A CDL (automatic transmission) training that will prepare participants to pass the Class A CDL driving test and meets all aspects of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Regulations.
It is designed for those seeking employment as a Class A Commercial Driver.
This training includes: Basic Operation, Safe Operating Procedures, Advanced Operating Procedures, Vehicle Systems, Reporting Malfunctions, and Non Driving Activities.
Prerequisites before starting class:
- Class A CDL permit - to obtain your permit you must take a general knowledge, airbrake, and combination written exams, which includes questions from the Minnesota Commercial Driver's Manual. To find a testing location, view Minnesota Driver & Vehicle office locations. After you pass all of the tests, you may apply to receive your permit. You must have a Class A CDL permit or license before you can begin driving.

Please note there is an additional cost of $300 to obtain your CDL Class A or B permit.
- DOT physical - you are required to have a physical completed in order to complete your training per federal guidelines. Saint Paul College Driver Training Academy can assist with your appointment and costs will be covered in your tuition.
- Pre-employment DOT drug screen - it's a federal requirement to be able to pass a drug & alcohol screening in order to graduate from the CDL Class A training. Saint Paul College Driver Training Academy can assist with your appointment and costs will be covered in your tuition.
- Clean Driving Record – Background check will be completed to confirm your eligiblity on the road.

An email will go out to you on more details, such as parking and where to go for class, will be sent out about 1 week prior to class start. Students will train at Saint Paul College.
