Essential Training for Mining Professionals
This 24-hour course is conducted via online video conferencing, offering live instruction and interactive learning.
Who Needs This Training?
Individuals involved in extraction or production processes, regularly exposed to mine hazards, or contracted by mining companies with frequent or extended exposure to mine hazards must complete comprehensive training, beginning with New Miner Training. "Regularly exposed" includes:
- Frequent exposure (recurring rather than consecutive days).
- Extended exposure of more than five consecutive workdays.
This course fulfills MSHA requirements for the classroom portions of New Miner Training and is available as:
- Open Enrollment: Designed for a general audience.
- Company/Organization Specific: Tailored training delivered upon request.
New Miner Training Details
- This 24-hour training addresses MSHA Part 46 and Part 48b (surface) operations.
- If this training is part of a 40-hour underground New Miner program, prior approval must be obtained from the MSHA District Office.
- Companies must provide an additional 8 hours of underground-specific classroom training and arrange for 8 hours of underground on-site training to meet the full 40-hour requirement.

Class Materials Provided
Participants will receive the Federal Metal & Nonmetallic Mine Training, Safety & Health Standards 30 CFR, For Surface & Underground Mines, Fourteenth Edition. Materials will be mailed approximately five days before the class start date.
- Cancellation Policy: A $20.00 cancellation fee will apply if materials have already been mailed.
Course Requirements
- High-speed internet access.
- A computer or video conferencing system with a webcam and microphone (built-in or external).
This course complies with federal training standards set forth in Title 30 CFR (MSHA) Parts 46 and 48.
