Minnesota State Medication Aide-Hybrid (Alexandria)
#: NSGA9500    ID: ATCC    Section: Sep2025
Description:
Minnesota State’s Medication Aide training prepares students for employment in skilled nursing facilities by providing the essential knowledge and hands-on skills needed for safe and effective medication administration. Delivered in a hybrid format, the course blends online learning—covering foundational concepts and theory—with in-person classroom instruction focused on practical application and skill development. This structure allows students to learn at their own pace while still benefiting from guided, face-to-face instruction.

Throughout the program, students participate in interactive exercises and real-world scenarios using a textbook specifically designed for medication aide training. The course includes a minimum of 48 instructional hours and prepares participants for both the final written exam and the skills competency exam. One retest is allowed for each exam, with a $60 fee per retest.

ELIGIBILITY
It is recommended that individuals be at least 18 years old and have six months of experience working as a certified nursing assistant (CNA) before enrolling in the Medication Aide training program. To be eligible, students must have completed a nursing assistant training program approved by the Minnesota Department of Health prior to enrollment. However, they are not required to have passed the nursing assistant exam or be listed on the nursing assistant registry. Individuals who have challenged the exam or transferred from another state without
completing a Minnesota-approved training program are not eligible. It is the responsibility of the employing facility to verify and document completion of the required CNA training. If you have questions about eligibility or training requirements, please visit the Minnesota Office of the Revisor of Statutes – Rule 4658.1360 for more information.
