The course structure includes orientation, online self-paced coursework, lab session, and clinical supervised practice with a preceptor of your choice.
Clinical dates with your approved preceptor are scheduled by the student. Northland does not provide a preceptor team.
Course Information
This is a North Dakota Board of Nursing approved course, written to provide the LPN with the knowledge of IV fluid balance, IV medication administration, central venous catheter maintenance, IV legalities with the role of the practical nurse, and IV initiation.
The course is designed in a hybrid format that would equal 30 hours of study and participation time over four weeks to complete:
- 5 assignments with 3 exams
- Six hours spent in lab practice time
- Four hours clinical supervised practice with an approved preceptor
Course requirements
- Students will provide their current LPN license number to complete the registration process and payment.
- Students are required to use a device with internet access and Chrome or Moziilla Firefox browser to complete online course, accessed via D2L Brightspace under Continuing Education at
cect.learn.minnstate.edu
- Students will attend orientation and lab on the East Grand Forks campus.
- Students will identify a clinical site with an approved clinical preceptor to complete successful initiation of three IVs, after passing the lab session.
- This is a continuing education Pass/Fail course. An overall score of 80% or above is required before attending the lab session.
- Training supplies include a textbook and supply kit. These items are included with your registration, to be picked up during orientation.
- Textbook must be returned at the lab session.
- Students will interact with the instructor through D2L and at the scheduled lab session.
- Scrubs and name tag are required for lab session.
