Limited Scope X-Ray Operator OR Bone Densitometry Certificate
The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) requires all operators of x-ray equipment in Minnesota to be certified. Potential operators must pass the limited scope examination given by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
This 120 hour, FULLY ONLINE course will prepare individuals for the AART examination, and will be completed in six weeks. This class is an instructor led online class. There is no specific time for you to be in class or login per day. You need to complete the work assigned by your instructor at your pace but with respect to deadline set by your instructor.
This course is designed to: 1. Prepare students for the ARRT Limited Scope Examination for x-ray operators. 2. Give students an overview of limited radiology technology. 3. Provide students with the necessary information to understand the following: the physics of x-ray production, the design and proper use of x-ray equipment, the principles of radiation safety with protection for both the operator and the patient, and the importance of good, safe working habits. 4. Acquaint the students with anatomy and positioning of the common radiographic projections performed by limited scope x-ray operators. Each Monday morning for six weeks a Module of study will be sent to the student. The student will have one week to complete the study.
This 6-week on-line program consists of:
Radiography physics
Principles of radiographic exposure
Positioning
Digital processing
Radiation safety
Bone Densitometry (for those who request this). Students who wish to have Bone Densitometry as an option, should contact the instructor once registered for the course by contacting Eugene Frank at: eugene@genefrank.org
Required Text and Workbook:
1. Radiographic Essentials for Limited Practice, Long et. al., 6th edition. Elsevier.
2. Workbook and Licensure Prep for Radiographic Essentials Limited Practice,
Long et. al., 6th edition. Elsevier.
NOTE: Electronic Textbooks and Workbooks may Not be used in this type of course.
Work Environment: To be successful as a Limited Scope X-Ray or Bone Densitometry operator, an individual must enjoy working with people in a medical setting such as doctor’s offices, small clinics, chiropractic or pediatric offices. The majority of people who take limited x-rays are medical assistants (CNA), medical lab technicians (MLT) or others that work in a clinic or doctor’s office and are now asked to take x-rays.
About the Instructor: Gene Frank
