Minnesota State Community and Technical College is a registered training provider for the theory and behind the wheel portions of Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT) for individuals and businesses who are obtaining a Commercial Driver’s License (Class A or B) to operate Commercial Motor Vehicles.

All our courses are self-paced and start with the theory portion of the training. You will register and pay for the self-paced online theory course first. Before you can start the course, you will need to register and pay for the Behind the Wheel portion, upload a completed vehicle use agreement, self-certification form, along with a copy of your Commercial Learner’s Permit and DOT Medical Card. This course includes 30 Chapters with PowerPoint Presentations, videos and a 5-10 question quiz that MUST be passed at 80% or higher to continue to the next chapter. This course is available 24/7 and must be completed within 3 months of your registration date.

Theory - $150

Behind the Wheel:

  • Class A Detroit Lakes/Wadena - $4,850
  • Class A Moorhead - $5,350
  • Class A Automatic Detroit Lakes/Wadena - $6,350
  • Class B Automatic Detroit Lakes/Wadena - $3,850
  • Class B Automatic Moorhead - $4,350
  • 4-hour Re-Test: $850 – This is required for all students who fail their road test per state statute
     

NEW Minnesota Rule – Repeat Road Test Requirements

Under Minnesota Administrative Rule if you fail your initial road test with M State as a third-party tester, you must complete an additional 4 hours of training including your skills test.

Subp. 3 Repeat Test Limit:
  • A third-party testing program may administer a second skills or road test to a student who has failed the initial skills or road test only if the student:
  1. completes four more hours of training, including a skills test, beyond that normally provided by the licensed driver education program
  • Cost for 4-hour retraining and retest: $850
  • If you choose not to complete the 4-hour training, you may retest at DVS instead.
    • DVS retest option: 3-hour session using our truck – $650
