This is an overview course designed for project engineers and engineering specialists with limited experience in bridges and structures, taught live online. The course includes material covered in the three-week Bridge Construction Certification Course with less detail and a more prominent emphasis on project level decision making. It includes bridge types and functional elements such as foundations, substructures, superstructures, and basic bridge mechanics. (An example plan will be used.) Case histories will stress the engineer’s role in actual projects. Other subjects covered will be bridge safety, contract administration, and NPDS regulations.
Upon completion of this course the attendees should have a basic knowledge and understanding of:
- Styles of bridges.
- Functions of bridge components.
- Bridge construction specifications and contract documents.
- Types of foundations and basics of pile driving procedures.
- Construction of substructures and superstructures.
- Bridge rehabilitation projects.
- Environmental concerns.
- Personnel safety.
