Continue to grow in your healthcare profession by pursuing a career as a Patient Care Technician! A Patient Care Technician is an important part of the healthcare team and can work in a variety of facilities, such as a hospital, clinic, or long-term care facility. In this role, technicians fulfill a broad scope of responsibilities, which can range from medical procedures like phlebotomy draws, EKG readings, and basic patient care, to customer-service oriented responsibilities, such as providing emotional support to both patients and families. Prospective healthcare professionals can take all courses at Century College, or take remaining required courses at other locations upon completing the Certified Nursing Assistant Class and/or the Phlebotomy Technician Course at Century College. Participants will be required to show proof of completion.
This program consists of the following required courses:
Nursing Assistant Class
Note: Participants are required to complete or show proof of successful completion of both the Nursing Assistant Class and the Knowledge and Skills Exam, in addition to showing active placement on the MN Nurse Aid Registry.
Phlebotomy Technician Course
Note: If you have not completed a phlebotomy course at Century College, you will be required to provide proof of course completion from a different location.
BLS Provider Course
Note: Proof of BLS Provider Certification is required. Participants have have the option of completing this course at Century College.
Certified EKG Technician Course or provide proof of 10 successfully EKGs on live individuals.
Certified EKG Technician Course: Century College partners with ed2go to provide the EKG Technician Course to certificate participants. Students are responsible for fulfilling the EKG clinical placement requirement. Registering for a course with our affiliated partnerships increases the likelihood of finding a site that best matches student needs. Prospective students can research the application process two weeks before completing certificate courses.
Proof of 10 EKGs: Please provide documentation of the EKG requirement from your current or previous employer.
