Motorcycle Safety Foundation - Basic Rider Course:

 E-Course: Highly interactive 5-hour online program that provides riders of all skill levels with the basics of motorcycling is REQUIRED for the Basic Rider Course.

MSF-RIDERCOACH:
  11.5-hours of hands-on riding exercises on the riding range. These exercises will guide you through the basic skills of straight-line riding, stopping, shifting, and turning, gradually progressing to swerving and emergency braking.

MOTORCYCLES:  Provided for all the students enrolled in the Basic Rider Course

Course Requirements
Attendance:  You must attend the entire course. If you are late, you will be dismissed and forfeit your registration fee.

Ability & Safety:  You must be able to ride and balance a bicycle. You must be able to safely control the motorcycle during every exercise.  The instructor may dismiss you from the course if, they feel you are a danger to your own safety or the safety of other students. 

Responsibilities:  You are responsible for your own safety and learning.  Discuss all questions or concerns with your instructors. If at any time during the course you experience fatigue, dizziness, disorientation, excessive physical or mental stress, or continued difficulty performing any exercise, stop immediately and notify your instructor. Notify them immediately of any hazards that you become aware of during the course.

Adults (18 )                                                                                                     
Present a valid motorcycle permit to your instructor .
Expired permits are accepted if they have been expired for less than one year.   


Minors (16-17) 
Valid vehicle driver's license REQUIRED.
 If you pass the course, you will receive course completion cards to allow you to take the motorcycle permit and skills test at a state exam station.


NOTE: Riders who have already failed a state and/or MMSC skills test twice are not eligible for the state skills test waiver and must skill test at a DVS exam station.
Bring to Class:
E-COURSE CERTIFICATE - Instructions for completing the e-course which takes approximately 5 hours are provided under the heading Enroll and Access the MSF ePackage1 eCourse towards the bottom of confirmation email. 
(Completion of the E-Course is a requirement for this course).

Permit (Age 18 )If you are a MN resident, are age 18 or over, and intend to earn your motorcycle endorsement while taking this course, you MUST obtain a motorcycle instruction permit before your course begins.

Riding Gear
You are required to bring your own protective gear for the range exercises.
-DOT approved helmet
-Long sleeve shirt or jacket
-Over the ankle footwear
-Long pants with no tears or holes
-Full-fingered gloves
-Rain gear or cold weather gear is recommended depending on the weather. Class will be held rain or shine.
-Eye protection (glasses/sunglasses/full-face shield on helmet)
-Sufficient Beverages for weather conditions and snacks


Waiver(s) - You will receive an additional email with waiver(s) to print & bring to class.   MINORS (16-17) -   Participants under 18 years of age will be required to have a waiver form signed by a parent or guardian in PERSON at the training location, or it must be NOTARIZED.  If you fail to do so, you will not be allowed to participate.

COURSE LOCATION- This course will be held in the East parking lot at the M State-DL campus located at 900 Highway 34 East, Detroit Lakes, MN 56501.  Park to the south of the MSF Training Trailer, closest to Highway 34. A map along with the waiver(s) and applicable class information will be sent in an additional email.

Motorcycle Cancellation/Refund Policy: Minnesota State Community and Technical College reserves the right to cancel a class up to the day prior to the course start date. If a class is canceled within said time period, a full refund will be issued. If you are unable to attend a class you are registered for, a refund will only be issued if notification is given at least 3 business days prior to the start date of the class, unless otherwise specified.
