Basic Rider Motorcycle Course

Learn How To Ride & Earn Your Motorcycle License Endorsement!
Motorcycle Safety Foundation Basic Rider Course:
E-course: (Required  for the basic rider course) Highly interactive 5-hour online program that provides riders of all skill levels with the basics of motorcycling is REQUIRED for the Basic Rider Course.
MSF RiderCoach: 11.5-hours of hands-on riding exercises on the riding range. These exercises will guide you through the basic skills of straight-line riding, stopping, shifting, and turning, gradually progressing to swerving and emergency braking
Motorcycles:  
 
Provided for all the students enrolled in the Basic Rider Course. Students may choose to ride their own motorcycle or scooter in the BRC, whether it is a manual shift or an automatic, provided:
  • The operator shows proof of insurance.
  • The motorcycle is street legal and registered as a motorcycle.
  • The motorcycle has an engine displacement of 500cc or less.
  • The motorcycle passes a T-CLOCS inspection.
Course Requirements
Attendance You must attend the entire course. If you are late, you will be dismissed and forfeit your registration fee.
Ability & Safety You must be able to ride and balance a bicycle. 
You must be able to safely control the motorcycle during every exercise.
The instructor may dismiss you from the course if, they feel you are a danger to your own safety or the safety of other students. 
Responsibilities You are responsible for your own safety and learning.
Discuss all questions or concerns with your instructors. If at any time during the course you experience fatigue, dizziness, disorientation, excessive physical or mental stress, or continued difficulty performing any exercise, stop immediately and notify your instructor. Notify them immediately of any hazards that you become aware of during the course.

Present a valid motorcycle permit to your instructor

Expired permits are accepted if they have been expired for less than one year.
Valid vehicle driver's license REQUIRED.

If you pass the course, you will receive course completion cards to allow you to take the motorcycle permit and skills test at a state exam station.

 
NOTE: Riders who have already failed a state and/or MMSC skills test twice are not eligible for the state skills test waiver and must skill test at a DVS exam station.
Bring to Class:
E-COURSE CERTIFICATE (Completion of the E-Course is a requirement for this program).
Instructions for completing the e-course which takes approximately 5 hours, are provided towards the end of this confirmation email.

Permit (Age 18 ) If you are a MN resident, are age 18 or over, and intend to earn your motorcycle endorsement while taking this course, you MUST obtain a motorcycle instruction permit before your course begins.

 RIDING GEAR
You are required to bring your own Protective Gear to the class.
-DOT approved helmet
-Long sleeve shirt or jacket
-Boots over the ankle footwear
-Long pants with no tears or holes
-Full-fingered gloves (motorcycle/gardening/winter)
-Rain gear is recommended. Class will be held rain or shine.
-Eye protection (glasses/sun glasses/full-face shield on helmet)
-Beverages and snacks
Waiver Attached you will find the MSC waiver form. This needs to be filled out and brought to class.  
 MINORS (16-17)  -   Participants under 18 years of age will be required to have a waiver form signed by a parent or guardian in PERSON at the training location, or it must be NOTARIZED.  If you fail to do so, you will not be allowed to participate.

 
Motorcycle Cancelation/Refund Policy: Riverland Community College reserves the right to cancel a class up to one day prior to the course start date. If a class is canceled within said time period, a full refund will be issued. If you are unable to attend a class you are registered for, a refund will only be issued if notification is given at least 5 business days prior to the start date of the class.
