Class description: Nursing Assistant VIRTUAL Knowledge Exam

The knowledge exam for the Nursing Assistant Test will be done virtually. You will need a smartphone with Zoom downloaded and a tablet/laptop/desktop for the virtual knowledge exam.

Once you are registered for the exam in TMU, the virtual knowledge test proctor will email you instructions one day before the test on how to login to the Zoom.

If they can't find the information, they can look in their "Notification" on their TMU account.  It is located in the upper right corner (same place they find their profile).

NOTE: if you are not in the ZOOM room at least 20 MINUTES BEFORE start time and ready to go, YOU MIGHT NOT BE ALLOWED TO TEST and will have to reschedule.


Nursing Assistants and Home Health Aides wishing to be placed on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry must meet one of the following eligibility requirements:
  1. Successfully complete an approved nursing assistant training and competency evaluation program in Minnesota. 
  2. Test-Out Candidate who does not meet any of the other three eligibility routes. Test Out candidates must fill out this form before registering for a test:Test-Out or Challenge Candidate Application Form 1101 Application (tmutest.com)
Any individual who completed the competency evaluation more than 24 months previously, and has not worked in Minnesota performing nursing-related duties within the past 24 months, must take the approved nursing assistant training and competency evaluation program in order to be eligible for placement and/or renewal on the registry.

Test-out dates may be canceled due to lack of registration.

You are not allowed to leave the virtual knowledge test until finished with your test. Please remember to use the restroom before signing into your virtual knowledge test.

VIRTUAL KNOWLEDGE EXAM CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS Candidates must have: • An updated version of Google Chrome as your Internet browser.  Internet Explorer is not supported by TMU©. • A reliable Internet (Wi-Fi) connection. • A personal computer/tablet/laptop to log into TMU© to access the knowledge exam. • Your Email or Username and Password to take the virtual TMU© Knowledge exam. • A smartphone to access the ‘video conferencing app’ (example; Zoom, etc.) that you will need to have downloaded.  D&SDT-Headmaster will provide you information of the ‘video conferencing app’ (example; Zoom, etc.) you will need before test day.  The night before your scheduled virtual knowledge exam, D&SDT-Headmaster will email and text (if you listed a text capable phone number in your TMU© record) you a reminder with the password protected link to join the test event. MAKE SURE YOU ARE CHECKING YOUR EMAILS AND TEXT MESSAGES! • A distraction and interruption free area of your home, etc., where you will be testing.

With the exception of the cell phone and tablet/laptop/desktop you are using for your virtual knowledge test, all other electronic and Blue-tooth connected devices (cell phones, smart watches, fitness monitors, tablets/laptops/desktops, etc.) usage is not allowed and these items are not allowed in the testing area or allowed to be near or on your person (in pocket, on wrist, etc.) during testing. Anyone using any other electronic or Blue-tooth connected device of any kind during testing (texting, Google searching, email, etc.) or navigating away from the virtual knowledge test during testing, will have their test stopped, will have their test scored as a failed test, will forfeit all testing fees and will be reported to their training program, D&SDT-HEADMASTER and Minnesota Department of Health.

Your video must remain on for the duration of testing. If, at any time, the video disconnects and you do not rejoin right away, your test will be stopped, you will forfeit all testing fees, and will have your test scored as a failed test. This is a secure virtual testing environment and all testing and security policies stated in the Minnesota Candidate Handbook will be followed.
