This program is based on underground construction safety for the City of St. Cloud and its excavating ordinance, the industry standards for electrical, gas, telecommunication, and municipal utilities. Discussion includes how they all tie together to form a very large area of concern for city officials, utilities, contractors, contractor employees and the safety of the general public.
Agenda:
- Overview of the St. Cloud right-of-way ordinance.
- Origin of the ordinance and why there is a need for certification of underground workers.
- Characteristics of natural gas and properties involved in the transmission and distribution system and their impact.
- Equipment that will make your job easier and why.
- Personal Protective Equipment best practices.
- The critical importance of understanding safety requirements of all underground industries and the impact on your well-being.
- Minnesota Office of Pipeline Safety enforcement.
- Practices and procedures when working around natural gas.
