Teen Driver Crash Avoidance Skills
This course is targeted at reducing the number, and severity of crashes involving young drivers. Due to limited seating the fee is nonrefundable and nontransferable.
Traffic crashes are a leading cause of fatalities and serious injuries for teen drivers. This class will target some of the causal factors relating to serious injury and fatal crashes.
Students must have a valid drivers license.
After a brief classroom presentation, students will use our police squad cars and be coached and challenged on handling the following driving maneuvers: off road recovery, collision avoidance, hazard recognition, inattentive and distracted driving, seatbelt use, effective and controlled braking, reaction time limitations, proper speed selection, and skid control in a controlled environment.
One parent must accompany their teen. While teens are driving, parents attend a 2-hour informational presentation on the real risks of teen driving. The presentation covers: current risks and crash data for MN roadways, review of the graduated license laws, consequences of poor decision making by teens, and the financial realities of teen driving.
Parents will also have the opportunity to observe their teen driving.
